A recently article announced that the Asian American Art Initiative has acquired 233 ceramic face masks created by well known artist Ruth Asawa. Ruth Asawa was a renowned artist who lived in the San Francisco area. She died in 2013. During WWII, Ruth Asawa was put in an internment camp in Arkansas. Mr. Takata’s mother whose maiden name was Teruko Asawa, was also put in the same camp. At the camp they became friends and were related as second cousins. Both came from the same area in Japan called Fukushima prefecture. Mr. Takata is pleased that the artwork of Ruth Asawa will be exhibited at Stanford Univeristy.
