Ruth Asawa was a renowned artist who lived in the San Franciso area. She died in 2013.  Author Marilyn Chase wrote a biography of her life in 2020 entitled Everything She Touched : The Life of Ruth Asawa.  During WWII, Ruth Asawa was put in an internment camp in Arkansas.  Mr. Takata’s mother whose maiden name was Teruko Asawa, was also put in the same camp.  At the camp they became friends and were related as second cousins.  Both came from the same area in Japan called Fukushima prefecture.  When Mr. Takata was in law school, he was invited to Ruth Asawa’s house and met her and her family.
