 Ruth Asawa was a prominent artist who lived in the San Francisco area and died in 2013.  

In August 2020, the US Postal Service honored the Japanese American artist Ruth Asawa. The USPO stated:

“Pioneering Japanese American artist Ruth Asawa (1926-2013) is best known for her intricate abstract wire sculptures.  Inspire by nature, Asawa transformed industrial material into transparent and seemingly weightless works of art that challenged traditional definitions of sculpture.  She is also acclaimed for her drawings, paintings, prints, and large public projects.” 

The USPO has issued commemorative stamp in her honor.  She is a relative of Mr. Takata on his mother’s side whose maiden name was Teruko Asawa.
